Introduction to Rational AI
Rational, when we talk about AI, specifically refers to software or an agent. A rational based AI agent will determine its next step based on information it currently has. Non-rational AI agents don’t make complex decisions to determine their next step or outcome. In short, the Rational AI will always look for the best outcome by determining it from its own mind in a manner of speaking.
A rational based AI it’s not rules based but more knowledge based, where it takes the information, it has been given and from that information come on determines a response or outcome. You could say that’s the AI agent would say “based on the information I have in my knowledge base; my answer is the most likely to be accurate”. In other words, it has evaluated what it has been asked. Then, assessed all possible responses and then provides the answer with the highest probability of accuracy from a response perspective.
Rational AI is the core brain of AI decision making automation that relies on a logical workflow.
How rational AI is used
Here are a few ways that’s rational AI is used in workflow automation
Performance
Where the workflow is performance based, the route the AI takes is to provide the highest level of performance, all the routes that would ultimately have the highest success to percentage.
Goals
Behaviour from a goal-based workflow is where the AI agent has been given a task to achieve a specific outcome. It is not following a mindless set of Rules, but rather, tackling obstacles to achieve its directive. A non-rational AI that is rule-based wood stumble when it came to its first obstacle unless the rule was written for the AI to bypass the obstacle. Rational AI will handle the obstacle and get back on course to achieve the goal.
Evolving
The AI continually evolves as it acquires new information. If new information is provided in its knowledge base where the new knowledge would provide a better outcome, it will evaluate this information and evolve over time and data received. The paragraph.
Hard decisions
Sometimes, an agent will not have the full picture to provide a 100% confidence answer. However, the agent will still provide the best answer based on the information it has. So long as the knowledge base is comprehensive, the agents will most likely provide the correct and best outcome.
Does an AI Receptionist Use Rational AI
An AI receptionist does use rational AI. During the build, the agent will be programmed to operate its responses from a prompt and knowledge base. For this reason, not all AI receptionists and agents are the same. We have come across many poor performing agents and the reason for this is down to a poor-quality prompt and or knowledge base. On the other hand, a well thought Out prompt and detailed knowledge base should enable the agent to perform very well.
Let’s now look at an example of how an AI receptionist works to achieve its goal: –
Example: Dental Practice
The agent’s primary goal will be to book appointments and intake new patients. The secondary goal is to answer other questions call they might have about the practice or dental work.
- They greet the caller in a professional manner
- They determine the reason for the call
- where appropriate, they ask the caller if they want to book an appointment
- They try to book the next earliest appointment and streamline appointments where possible
- They make decisions based on new information provided by the caller
- They identify qualify and resolve in and the effective manner
Let’s say for example that’s a caller has phoned the dental practice. The AI receptionist says, ” hello this is ABC Dental Practice, how may I help you”? The caller then says “I have just moved to the area and need to set up a dentist. Are you taking on new patients”
The AI receptionist will then answer the question. If they are taking on new patients, it will ask the caller if they want to register but it will also most likely ask if they would like to book an appointment for a check-up. That is the prompts for the goal to encourage new appointments and to book them.
AI Receptionists are a Real Asset For Your Business
These agents are a real asset for virtually every business. The technology has not only made it viable for AI to handle a reception desk, but it often does a better job than a human would. It is available to work 24/7, it doesn’t take a lunch break, it doesn’t go off sick and it is 100% faithful. It can handle multiple incoming calls at the same time and answer all of them without getting flustered.
